BLS Ambulances
BLS ambulances in the County of Ventura operate with two Emergency Medical Technicians to deliver Basic Life Support care to ill or injured patients being transported from one medical facility to another medical facility or back to home after receiving care. Most of these patients require transport by ambulance because they are unable to sit or stand and require assistance to more from one bed to another. Our service provides a safe and comfortable environment for the patient during their trip. If the patient were to have any kind of medical problem during their trip our Emergency Medical Technicians would be ready to assist the patient and ensure they the patient was taken to closest appropriate medical facility for further treatment.
At this time, AMR-Ventura does not staff any BLS ambulances. We have focused on providing as many ALS (Paramedic) ambulances to the County of Ventura as possible. These ALS ambulances respond to all emergency and non-emergency request and have the ability to provide either an ALS or BLS service level, based on the patients needs. BLS ambulances may be staffed to provide First-Aid at special events or for extended length, out-of-county patient BLS transports.
Equipment – What's on a Basic Life Support ambulance?
A BLS ambulance carries various medical equipment on it. It has many of the things that you would find in an emergency department at a hospital or on an ALS Ambulance. A few of those items are a blood pressure cuff, a stethoscope, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), splints, cervical collars, back boards, a car seat for transporting children, and oxygen.
As it is the number one most important treatment for any patient in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest we are proud to state that all of our BLS ambulances are equipped with an Automatic External Defibrillator or AED.
BLS Ambulance Standby Services
A BLS Ambulance requested for a standby service makes a great addition to any public event. The crew can provide a First-Aid booth for your event as well as provide in important life saving device, an Automated External Defibrillator (Purchase of our BLS Ambulance standby service gives anyone at your event, over 18-years of age, access to free Over-The-Counter medications and Sunscreen). BLS Ambulances used for standby services are not intended to transport patients from the special event to an emergency room. All patients within Ventura County with a medical emergency are transported by ALS Paramedic Ambulances. If you need an ambulance to standby with the intent of transporting patients to an emergency room, please request an ALS Paramedic Ambulance. Along with our BLS Ambulance Standby Services we also offer several other Event Medical Standby Services -- Click here to find out about all of our Special Event Medical Services.
